Led Optocoupler Circuit

How to Build an Optocoupler Circuit. In this project, we will show how to connect an optocoupler chip to a circuit. An optocoupler or optoisolator chip is a chip that allows for electrical isolation between the input of the circuit and the output of the circuit.

This LED Optocoupler circuit uses two ordinary LEDs as the optocoupler element. When a voltage of 2V is fed to the input, LED 2 will generate a voltage that is strong enough to switch on transistor T5. The upper frequency limit is around 38 kHz. Very low pulse frequencies are almost meaningless for the circuit.

Depending on your circuit you may need to add a resistor on the other side of the optocoupler as well. Test circuit. To get started and to make sure I had everything working before attaching the camera I created a test circuit. This is simply the optocoupler with an Arduino connected on one side and a LED and battery on the other.

The open-circuit output voltage of a TTL IC falls to less than 0.4V when in the logic-0 state, but may rise to only 2.4V in the logic-1 state if the IC is not fitted with an internal pull-up resistor. In such a case, the optocoupler LED current will not fall to zero when the TTL output is at logic-1.

Optocoupler for Switching DC Circuit: In the upper circuit a Photo-Transistor based optocoupler circuit is used. It will act like a typical Transistor switch. In the schematic a low cost photo-transistor based opto-coupler PC817 is used. The infra-red led will be controlled by the S1 switch. When the switch will be on, the 9V battery source ...

As you see in the above figure the Optocoupler IC divided into two sections, one is the Light emitter section and another section is a light receiver or light sensor. The optocoupler mainly has two elements one is a light source, it may be LED, LASER, Infrared etc. Another element is a light receiver such as it may be a Phototransistor.

What is necessary is to ensure that R1 creates an appropriate current level from the input circuit to correctly drive the LED side of the optocoupler, and that R2 creates appropriate voltage and current levels to supply the output circuit via the inverter.
